    Description

This set of 4 antique sterling silver were made by Whiting Manufacturing Co. of New York who traces its roots back to 1840 with the firm of Tifft and Whiting in North Attleboro, Mass. After a series of partnership changes the firm incorporated as Whiting Manufacturing Company in 1866. They were purchased in 1924 by the Gorham Co. and relocated to Providence, RI. Date marks were not instituted by Whiting until 1905, so this set has no date hallmark.
The simple pattern is called Fiddle and each spoon is monogrammed with EJM in fancy English script. All have the Whiting W lion Sterling mark and C. Hartdegen & co., a retailer in Newark NJ from 1873 to 1970. The spoons have heavy tarnish commiserate with their age. One of them has a repair on the handle that will be less visible once it is brightly polished again. I can polish the set at the request of the buyer.
My grandmother was an antiques dealer and collector in the 60s, 70s up until her death in 1997. This piece is from her collection.
She was an eclectic collector who especially loved French Art Deco and art nouveau pieces. I have so many beautiful things from her and I just can't keep them all.
