    Description

Sterling Machine Age Cufflinks Must See UNUSUAL FINDINGS 1950s MCM Propeller Cog
    Sculptural and
    so
interesting, these vintage 1950s era sterling cuff links have a sensational Machine Age design featuring a disk surmounted by intersecting "blades" (shaped something like a bridge) that extend over the outside edge and are scooped out in the center.  They might represent propellers, cogs or some other industrial machine part or piece of machinery altogether.  The links' cross bars (that go through the cuff) are quite different: flat, wide and angled in the center.  Form follows function and equally, or even more, unusual is the removable mechanism at the back, shaped like a money clip or tie bar, which goes through a slit at the end of the cross bar and is grooved on one side so it stays in place on the bar and makes for a great looking back.  (Photo 7.)  All these construction and design details give the cufflinks a cool Mid-century or 1950s Modernist look, some might consider a predecessor of Steam Punk.  With their interesting outline, profile and backs, they will look fantastic on your cuffs!  Industrial Chic!
The cufflinks are approximately 1/4" deep, the disks are about 7/8" in diameter and the blades extend out from the edge by about 3/16".  Well made and substantial, they weigh 21.3 grams.
The findings' cross bars are signed only "Sterling".  (Penultimate photo.)  While we may not know the artist, the quality of the cufflinks' design and craftsmanship attest to the high caliber of his skills.
They are in Excellent vintage condition with just surface dirt, scratches and tarnish consistent with their half century of age.  They have a great vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
    So
Striking, they are quite Riveting!  And have you ever seen cufflinks with findings/backs like these?  A wonderful rendition of cool fifties machine age forms and reminiscent of the best signed studio jewelry of that period, worldwide, these sculptural links are wearable works of art that clearly demonstrate the skills of the artist.  They would make a super gift, although I doubt you will want to part with them, and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  They belong equally in collections of Mid Century Modern or Machine Age Silver, Modernist design and of course, cufflinks.  While anyone who wears cufflinks will appreciate them, a serious collector will be amazed by this rare pair.  An unusual, striking and handsome pair of mid-century links with unusual construction to add to your collection of quality and distinction.
