VIRGIL HANDMADE Sterling & Ebony Wood Cufflinks MidCentury Modern ~Fine Handsome
Expertly combining the elements of sterling silver and wood, these handsome hand made vintage cufflinks by Virgil are interestingly designed and beautifully executed.  Squares of deep dark ebony wood were bezel-set in sterling frames that were cut out at the corners to reveal the corners of the wood, a small but effective design detail that adds immeasurably to their look.  The backs are interesting too: elongated and beveled wooden rods that were mortised (cut down) in the centers where they are wrapped with silver bands attached to the connector chain.
These outstanding cufflinks stand out strikingly (and will really "pop" on a white or light colored shirt).  They will look sensational on your cuff.
Dating from around the 1950s, the faces measure about 11/16" square by about 3/16" thick or deep and the backs, which are connected by chain, measure about 13/16" long by about 3/16" thick or deep.  They weigh 10.8 grams.
Even the signature has a lot of design and style: They are signed "Virgil" along with "HandMade Sterling" on the backs.  (Penultimate photo.)  I could not find much information about this artist but his work rivals the best of that produced by acclaimed mid century modernist studio artists in this country.
And this pair of cufflinks is an excellent example.
They are in Very Good vintage condition, with expected dirt, scratches and tarnish.  They have a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.  There are minor imperfections in the natural wood and inconsistencies in execution that only add to their handmade charm.  The dark ebony wood is super good looking with the sterling silver.
This handsome pair of vintage sterling and wood cuff links is a wearable work of art that will enhance your collection - and look fabulous on your cuffs.  The links would
