SO striking!  Rugged and handsome, these vintage modernist sterling geometric cuff links from the fifties are really good looking.  And not just the faces - their backs are interesting too.  Dimensional and sculptural, on the faces there are raised concentric rectangles centered with an oval that echoes the shape of the backs, which are ovals, bisected by a straight line (which, of course, echoes the shape of the faces).  The repetition, juxtaposition and contrast of the geometric forms is fascinating and not just eye catching, it is quite commanding.  The raised surfaces appear forcefully hand hammered while the recessed areas were oxidized (deliberately darkened) for further texture, depth, contrast and interest.  These powerful links will stand out dramatically on your cuffs.
Well-made, the cufflinks weigh in at 21.8 grams.  The faces measure about 1-3/16" by about 11/16" by about 1/8" deep; the backs about 3/4" by 1/4" by about 1/8" deep.
They are signed only "Sterling".  (Penultimate photo.)  While we may never know the identity of the maker, the skill of the links' execution and the artistry of their design demonstrate the talents of an accomplished silver smith and artist.
Over half a century old, the cufflinks are in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with not much more than surface scratches, dirt and tarnish.  They have an absolutely wonderful vintage patina with that great oxidation; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
They are superb examples of the clean lines and cool design that characterize the best mid-century studio jewelry, not just from America, but world-wide.  Eminently wearable, these sculptural links are works of art to wear that will look sensational on your cuff.  Belonging equally in collections of Twentieth Century design, fifties modernism, studio jewelry, sterling and cufflinks, they would make a terrific gift, although I doubt you will want to part with them, and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  A wonderful pair of mid-century modern sterling geometric cufflinks to add to your collection of quality and distinction!
